The Russian government news agency TASS reported today, citing the Ministry of Defense, that Russian warships conducted exercises in the White Sea to guard and defend a group of vessels in what was described as routine combat maneuvers. TASS quoted a statement from the Ministry of Defense saying, "The day before, the small anti-submarine ships Oniga and Naryan-Mar performed training and combat tasks to repel an aerial attack by a hypothetical enemy." The agency added that the warships fired from anti-aircraft missile systems and naval guns in a simulation of strikes against aerial targets during air defense training. During the exercises, the two small anti-submarine ships, Oniga and Naryan-Mar, practiced organizing combat use of weapons and electronic warfare equipment in a scenario of simultaneous attacks from the air and sea.
