The German newspaper "Die Zeit" revealed that the Frankfurt police plan to use patrols to combat street prostitution that occurs outside designated areas, following a significant increase in the number of sex workers in the city during the kickoff of the European Cup on Friday. The report published on the newspaper's website on Saturday indicated that hosting "Euro 2024" would markedly raise the level of prostitution in Germany. The report added that estimates of how much money will be spent vary, amid concerns of a significant increase in brothels, especially hotels. A spokesperson for the Frankfurt police told "Die Zeit": "There will be a significant increase, which always happens during major events and trade fairs hosted in the city." The German newspaper noted that the health department in Düsseldorf is significantly expanding testing for sexually transmitted diseases on match days, hence the Frankfurt police's plan to use patrols to combat street prostitution.
