Israeli Officer Killed and 17 Injured During Jenin Camp Incursion (Photos and Video)

The Israeli army announced today, Thursday, the death of a sniper unit leader in Jenin and the injury of 16 soldiers with varying degrees of wounds. According to the newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth," the deceased is Officer Alon Sakgio (22 years old) from the Sayeret Matkal brigade of the Kfir Brigade, who was posthumously promoted to the rank of Captain. He was the commander of the sniper unit in Sayeret Matkal and was killed by a powerful explosive device planted deep at the entrance of the camp. As a result of the explosion of the powerful bomb and another device, 16 soldiers were injured, one of them critically, while the others sustained moderate to minor injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates that despite a D9 bulldozer clearing the path for military vehicles to detect explosives, the bombs were placed unusually deep, reaching up to one and a half meters, making them undetectable. It was reported that the armored "Tiger" vehicle fell into the ambush of the first explosive device, and the soldiers inside reported that they were hit. After a further force arrived to assist, another large explosion occurred at the site, and it appears that the bombs were detonated remotely.

Israeli media reported that one soldier was killed and 17 others were injured during the incursion into Jenin city and its camp last Wednesday. After more than 8 hours of incursion, the Israeli forces withdrew this morning, according to Palestinian media reports. The city witnessed clashes between the residents and the Israeli forces in Jenin and its camp, resulting in a young man in the old town of the al-Syabat neighborhood being injured in the face by Israeli bullets and the arrest of three individuals, according to health sources in the city.

The Israeli forces, which entered Jenin shortly before midnight last night, deployed military reinforcements in the city and around Jenin Camp early this morning and deployed dozens of sniper soldiers on the rooftops of commercial buildings and houses in the city and its commercial center, amid ongoing clashes and the sound of explosions.
