On Thursday, Speaker of the House Nabih Berri received Lawyer's Syndicate Head Nader Kassar along with a delegation from the Syndicate Council at the second presidency in Ain al-Tineh. They discussed various issues related to the concerns of lawyers. Following the visit, Kassar stated: "When we visit President Nabih Berri, we visit our home. It is well-known that before being the Speaker of the House, President Berri was a lawyer. We discussed several matters, and it was not surprising that he immediately engaged with all the issues raised, starting with the issue of 1 in a thousand, which pertains to the funds coming from the notaries to the Ministry of Finance, to be handed over to the Lawyer's Syndicate instead of being placed in banks, thus making it impossible for us to withdraw them." Kassar also pointed out that "the second issue is the draft law on VAT, and since there is currently no legislation to suspend this matter, we contacted the Minister of Finance, as well as the law for the suspension of deadlines. We are waiting for the Parliament to be able to legislate. We also informed President Berri about the fees on companies, noting that the amount of 500 million LBP for establishing a company and 300 million LBP for the institution will discourage citizens from establishing companies and institutions, leading them to move to other countries for 'offshore' companies. The President was understanding and cooperative regarding all these issues and will act accordingly." He concluded, "We briefed the President on the Syndicate's plans for the development of local offices and the centers of the Syndicate within them, revitalizing and equipping them." President Berri also received former MP Hussein Yatim. In the afternoon, the Speaker reviewed the general situation, political developments, and legislative issues during his meeting with MP Ahmad al-Khayr.
