The Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, expressed his concerns regarding the potential expansion of military confrontations in Lebanon, which could threaten to drag the Middle East into a large-scale regional war. In a statement issued today, Monday, the Secretary-General reiterated his full solidarity with the Lebanese state and condemned the Israeli threats directed at Lebanon, emphasizing that any potential escalation poses a threat to the security and stability of the entire region. He stated that he is in the process of conducting a number of international communications to help contain the situation and avoid increasing the current tensions, in order to prevent a widespread confrontation that could destabilize the region undesirably.
