Bassem Naeem, the head of the foreign relations department in the "Hamas" movement, denied any plans for a bilateral meeting with the "Fatah" movement in Beijing. Naeem stated, "Preparations are underway for a meeting of Palestinian factions in Beijing later this month; the information regarding a separate bilateral meeting between Fatah and Hamas in Beijing is incorrect."
Earlier, leaders from both "Hamas" and "Fatah" announced that Palestinian factions, including both movements, would hold national unity talks in China this July in an attempt to resolve deep divisions. The two movements met in China in April 2024 to discuss reconciliation efforts and ending political divisions that have persisted for about 17 years.
According to the American newspaper "The New York Times," with apparent progress between Israel and "Hamas" towards reaching a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, discussions regarding the plans for the future of the territory have gained greater importance. For his part, Fatah's Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad stated that the movement will send three officials, including Mahmoud al-Aloul, the deputy head of the movement. The newspaper reported that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will meet with Palestinian factions on July 21 and then again on July 23, noting that the two movements will meet privately.
