The famous Estonian athlete and adventurer, Jan Rõs, a world champion in tightrope walking, has set a record in Qatar by walking on the longest illuminated rope in the world within a single building. Jan Rõs successfully traversed the distance between the two iconic towers of one of Qatar's prominent architectural landmarks, the "Raffles Doha" and "Fairmont Doha" hotels in Lusail.
The distance between the two towers that the Estonian champion walked on the sparkling rope is the longest within a single building in the world, exceeding 150 meters, on a rope with a width of only 2.5 cm, at a height of over 185 meters. Jan Rõs, a three-time world champion in tightrope walking, accomplished this significant challenge on his first attempt, walking on the rope known as the "sparkling rope" and crossing on foot the distance between the two towers owned by Katara Hospitality, which are designed in the shape of curved swords.
In his comments about the new world record he achieved, the Estonian champion said: "I felt a desire to cross the distance between the towers from the moment I saw the building. Every worthy goal comes with a corresponding challenge, and I am very proud of this achievement. With every step I took, walking on this rope was the most difficult ever. As an athlete, I always strive for excellence and challenge all difficulties. In this case, I had to immediately respond to the conditions of heat and wind while on the taut rope, and the warm LED lights and their extra weight also changed the way the rope interacted with me and my body weight, making it feel like skating on a giant, heavy tree trunk instead of a light skateboard."
Jan Rõs added: "The iconic towers represent a wonderful place to accomplish this feat and made my first visit to Qatar very special."
