Title: Listeriosis Outbreak in Canada

The official website of the Canadian government reported that an outbreak of Listeria bacteria in Canada has resulted in the deaths of two individuals and the hospitalization of nine others. The Canadian government statement indicated: "Laboratory tests confirmed that 12 of the reported cases were caused by the Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. Nine individuals have been hospitalized, and two have died. Most reported consuming plant-based beverages marketed under the Silk and Great Value brands." According to the statement, 10 cases of the illness were recorded in Ontario, with two in Quebec and Nova Scotia. These plant-based beverages have been recalled from the market. The statement emphasizes: "It is not unlikely that more cases of the illness will be reported, as the incubation period for the infection can range from 9 to 35 days. It is also possible that this outbreak is not limited to the provinces or territories where the disease is prevalent, as the recalled plant-based beverages were distributed nationwide." Listeriosis is an infection caused by the gram-positive bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, typically from consuming contaminated food.
