The Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, Bassam Mawlawi, confirmed to MTV that "the Energy Minister does not have solutions for the energy problems" in prisons, but "we will light them as we lit the elections," and the general amnesty is on the table but awaits the political conditions."
In another interview on the "Crisis Cell" program via MTV, Mawlawi revealed: "I proposed to reduce the prison sentence to 6 months, and the Speaker of the House Nabih Berri will present this proposal for a vote after the budget." He pointed out that "we aim to address the problem of overcrowding in prisons, not a specific group, and the ministry's perspective is comprehensive and national."
Mawlawi added: "We continue to carry out our difficult tasks in managing prisons and are trying to address issues related to medical care, hospitalization, and nutrition, as the allocated budget is sufficient for only one month." He confirmed that "electricity never ceases in the prisons, and we investigate every case of death that occurs within any prison, and all emergency cases are transferred to the hospital."
