The Muslim Council of Elders, chaired by the venerable Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Imam Ahmed Al-Tayyeb, condemned the continued Israeli incursions into the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque, the latest of which involved an incursion by an extremist Israeli minister, members of the Knesset, and other extremists today, under the protection of Israeli occupation police.
The Council expressed its outrage and condemnation of what is referred to as the "Flag March" in occupied Jerusalem, along with the accompanying aggression against Palestinians, racist extremist practices, and restrictions on worshippers' access to Al-Aqsa Mosque, as well as limitations on the movement of worshippers in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, according to "WAM".
The Council called on the international community to urgently move to compel the Israeli occupation to halt all forms of aggression against the Palestinian people and their Islamic and Christian sanctities, to respect the legal status of Jerusalem, and to end all illegal and unlawful actions by the occupation authorities, as well as attempts to physically and temporally divide Al-Aqsa Mosque. It affirmed that Al-Aqsa Mosque, in its entirety covering an area of 144 dunams, is a purely Islamic place of worship.
The Muslim Council of Elders reiterated its position calling for "the necessity of intensifying international efforts for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, allowing the entry of humanitarian and relief aid, acknowledging the rights of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital, and ending the continuous suffering of the Palestinian people for decades."
