"ICESCO" Appoints Egyptian Journalist Mai Reda as Peace Ambassador

The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) has appointed Egyptian journalist Mai Reda as a Peace Ambassador representing the Arab Republic of Egypt. This announcement was made during the launch of the third cohort of the ICESCO Leadership Training for Peace and Security Program (LTIPS) for the 2023-2024 cycle, at a significant event held in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, with the attendance of political and diplomatic figures.

The program provides a leading platform for training initiatives that support security and peace and strengthen its ties, offering young people the opportunity to engage in security and peace initiatives. ICESCO places significant emphasis on youth, supporting them and opening avenues for their voices to be heard. The program aims to build the capacities of young people and develop their leadership skills through 10 training units that adopt ICESCO's 360-degree approach to peace, focusing on various dimensions of building and enhancing peace. It also provides young participants the chance to dialogue with inspirational leaders from different generations and countries, along with workshops dedicated to a youth peace incubator.

ICESCO announced the names of 100 young men and women from 68 countries selected to be part of the third cohort of the ICESCO Leadership Training for Peace and Security Program (LTIPS) for the 2023-2024 cycle, chosen from over 2,000 applicants for participation in the program. Those selected will undergo training courses that qualify them to become ICESCO ambassadors for peace upon successful completion. There has been a notable increase in the number and nationalities of applicants this time, with the selection committees receiving applications from 2,023 young men and women from 68 countries, including 47 member states of ICESCO and 21 non-member states. In comparison, applicants for the second cohort numbered 1,700 from 48 countries, including 37 ICESCO member states and 11 non-member states.
