Controversy in Egypt Over Fears of Theft of an 850 kg Silver Royal Bed

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has clarified the status of the silver bed, on which Prince Mohammed Ali Tawfik was born, at the Museum of Prince Mohammed Ali in the Manial district of Cairo. The website "Cairo 24" detailed a story about a visit by an Egyptian woman to the museum, sharing a photo from inside the palace's second-floor hall on her official Facebook page. The visitor commented on the picture saying, "In one of my previous visits, I took a selfie in the hall with the silver bed, and after a while, I took the same photo and the bed was not present, and I wondered (what a loss)."

In this context, Egyptian media contacted the Crisis and Disasters Management of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities. They reported contacting Dr. Rehab Gomaa, General Director of Restoration at the Manial Museum, Amal Sadiq, the General Director of the Manial Palace Museum, and Mohamed Al-Bardini, the museum director, all of whom confirmed that the bed was moved to the museum's restoration laboratory a year ago. It has since been restored and is now located within the museum, as requested by the exhibition scenario committee, and will soon be presented in the museum. The museum will soon be opened and will display the aforementioned bed. Weighing 850 kg, the bed is distinguished by its beauty and intricate carvings and decorations. Prince Mohammed Ali Tawfik had requested that his palace and its treasures be transformed into a museum after his passing.
