The final statement of the "National Meeting of Sunni Deputies" was issued, which took place at Dar al-Fatwa. It stated that members of the Lebanese Parliament from the Sunni Muslim community responded to the invitation of His Excellency, the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan, to discuss the national role that Dar al-Fatwa is committed to and works on, in order to enhance national unity and coexistence, defend Lebanon's identity and its Arab affiliation, and preserve its humanitarian message that they take pride in.
Given the deteriorating social and economic conditions that worsen day by day, and following the completion of the election of the new Parliament and the commencement of its legislative work, along with the approaching constitutional deadline for electing a new president, it was necessary to consult on the national role that Lebanese people representatives are expected to undertake to restore constitutional legitimacy, from what it has gone through and is still undergoing in terms of violations, and to correct the trajectory of relations with Arab brothers that have suffered harm, distortion, and deliberate offenses that negatively impacted the foundations of Arab brotherhood, as well as Lebanon's material and moral interests with fraternal states.
After deliberating on these issues, the attendees agreed on the following:
First: Renewing adherence to the Islamic constants announced by Dar al-Fatwa regarding the belief in Lebanon as the final homeland for all its citizens, and renewing commitment to what was stated in the Taif Agreement concerning Lebanon's Arab identity and the foundations that uphold national unity among all its spiritual families.
Second: Confirming commitment to the general principles that achieve equality in citizenship in rights and duties, and condemning all violations that previously led and continue to lead to undermining the foundations of national reconciliation and coexistence for individual, partisan, or sectarian calculations. All Lebanese are equal before the law in rights and obligations, and no group has superiority over another except to the extent that it contributes to a unified and cohesive Lebanon, and to its humanitarian message in shared living.
Third: Lebanon has suffered from mismanagement and has paid dearly due to the pervasive corruption that has regrettably become, under political protection at times, and at times in collaboration with it, part of the political administration system, becoming a pillar for some actors in public affairs, including politicians and administrators, which has led Lebanon to its current state of failure and decline. It is time for this suffering to end, for the foundations of corruption to vanish, and for Lebanon to breathe again and start anew as a homeland of love, prosperity, and abundance.
Fourth: Working to rescue Lebanon from its current state to what it should be requires first acknowledging the mistake. Second, it requires retracting this mistake. Third, it requires holding accountable whoever is responsible, regardless of who they are. Fourth, it requires sincere cooperation among all its citizens and between them and their Arab brothers and the international community, for Lebanon to regain its identity and role, and to restore its status as a vital Arab and humanitarian necessity.
Fifth: Lebanon cannot expect a fraternal Arab hand to extend to it for help while it contains those who wrongfully defame fraternal Arab states to the point of hostility, which distorts the Arab brotherhood that enables Lebanon to exist.
The members of the Lebanese Parliament from the Sunni Muslims, who gathered today under the presidency of His Excellency the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Daryan, and upon his initiative, affirm their loyalty and fidelity to Lebanon, which they take pride in, and to the Lebanese people to whom they belong across all sects and municipalities. They commit to working diligently to achieve the following national objectives:
1. Preserving Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and freedoms, and maintaining good relations, especially with the Arab family to which it belongs. They will work with their fellow deputies from all sects and regions to defend against any harm to any member of this Arab family and will not intervene in its internal affairs.
2. Working with their fellow members of the Parliament to elect a new president for the Republic by the specified constitutional date, a person who respects the constitution and adheres to the constitutional oath, in loyalty to the people of Lebanon and its higher interests.
3. Emphasizing that Lebanon's enemy has always been and remains the Israeli enemy, which continues to occupy parts of Lebanese lands, as it occupies Islamic and Christian sanctities in Jerusalem and in many areas and cities of occupied Palestine. They hold the international community responsible for the continuation of this aggressive occupation that challenges international legitimacy and the national rights of the fraternal Palestinian people, especially regarding their Islamic and Christian sanctities, and they call for the implementation of United Nations resolutions that call for the Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Palestinian territories and recognize the city of Jerusalem itself as an occupied city.
The Dar al-Fatwa in the Lebanese Republic, which considers itself a national house for all Lebanese, works to unite representatives of Sunni Muslims in the Parliament around a comprehensive national discourse, committed to achieving unity within the Lebanese community, which expresses Lebanon's identity and mission and brings together the united Lebanese family with all its components.
