Iran Emphasizes "Priority" of Ceasefire in Gaza

Iran confirmed today, Saturday, that reaching a ceasefire in the ongoing war in Gaza is a "priority" for Tehran, while also stressing its "legitimate right" to respond to the assassination of the political bureau chief of Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, in the Iranian capital. The Iranian permanent mission to the United Nations stated: "Our priority is to reach a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Any agreement that Hamas agrees to, we will also recognize." However, it also affirmed that Israel has "violated our national security and sovereignty through its recent terrorist act. We have the legitimate right to defend ourselves, which is entirely unrelated to the ceasefire in Gaza."
