President Amine Gemayel welcomed the Saudi Arabian Ambassador Walid Al-Bukhari at his office in "House of the Future." This was an opportunity to discuss developments at both the internal and regional-international levels. Gemayel greeted "the Kingdom, its king, and crown prince for their sincere and gratuitous support of Lebanon for decades, despite the negative stances expressed by some politicians." He stated, "There is no doubt that Lebanon remains in a dangerous situation and needs its Arab and international friendships to help it overcome its unprecedented crisis."
Regarding the maritime demarcation agreement, he said, "It is a new ceasefire agreement or Ceasefire 2, or a security agreement between Lebanon and Israel, established under the title of maritime border demarcation, marking a new phase that extends from the 1949 armistice agreement, along with what it signifies beyond time, including weapons and popular slogans."
He pointed out that "geographical borders, as well as sovereignty, are an indivisible unit on land, at sea, and in the air. Therefore, the agreement on maritime border security extends to the internal situation." He considered that "realistically, the demarcation agreement has established a new phase in both the Lebanese and regional arenas."
Gemayel hoped that "the agreement would facilitate the completion of constitutional obligations, foremost among them the election of a president for the republic and the formation of a government, and serve as an entry point to contain the unprecedented economic crisis."
Al-Bukhari announced that "his meeting with President Amine Gemayel addressed vital issues and recent developments in the Lebanese arena and the changes in the regional scene in search of future prospects." He acknowledged "President Amine Gemayel's positions and proposals that contribute to finding solutions," and affirmed "the significant role of the Kingdom in the national equation to maintain Lebanon's security and stability." He praised "the rich legacy that ties Saudi Arabia to President Amine Gemayel and the affection and appreciation he holds."
