On Tuesday, the Federal Integrity Commission announced that it successfully apprehended two officers working at the Abu al-Khaseeb center while they were extorting a citizen and coercing him into paying a bribe. The Commission's investigation department stated in a statement that "the Investigation Directorate in Basra formed a work team immediately after receiving a complaint regarding two officers at a police station in Basra who were extorting the complainant, coercing him, and demanding a financial amount of 10 million dinars."
The statement added, "The team set up a tight ambush for the accused, and they were caught in the act while receiving the first installment of 5 million dinars out of the total agreed amount of 10 million dinars," expressing gratitude for the efforts made by law enforcement forces (SWAT) for their high level of cooperation and coordination in carrying out the operation.
It was reported that "one of the officers, who holds the rank of Colonel and serves as the director of the Abu al-Khaseeb police station, and the other, a First Lieutenant, raided the complainant's home and seized weapons belonging to his ancestors, while the complainant succumbed to the extortion of the accused, who demanded 10 million dinars in exchange for replacing the weapons with others, as the original weapons were of special value to the complainant as part of his family legacy."
Furthermore, it was mentioned that "an official record of the seizure was organized, and it was presented along with the accused and the seized items to the investigating judge, who decided to detain them pending investigation."
