A horrific fire on Saturday destroyed one of the oldest hotels in California. The flames erupted at 10 PM inside the "Marysville" hotel, which was built 98 years ago, leading to the deployment of several firefighting teams to control the blaze. Firefighters worked until 9 AM on Sunday before announcing that they had gained control over the fire, which ignited for an unknown reason. California officials confirmed the incident, stating that the five-story hotel has been reduced to a shell of its former self, highlighting the extent of damage caused by the fire.
The "Marysville" hotel opened in 1926 and was once a distinguished destination until it closed in 1989, becoming an abandoned building amidst ongoing efforts by real estate developers to utilize and invest in the property. These efforts ceased in 2023 following the death of Lance Rubens, the last owner of the hotel. California police stated that the cause of the fire remains unknown; however, investigations will commence as soon as access to the building is permitted, with suspicions of arson due to conflicts among homeless individuals seeking refuge in abandoned structures.
