The Battle Against COVID: A Glimmer of Light at the End of the Tunnel!

The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced that the mortality rate due to COVID-19 has significantly decreased in recent times, and the situation is currently better than ever before. In a small press conference held in Geneva, the Director pointed out that humanity still requires several years to completely overcome COVID-19.

According to the organization's statistics, approximately 9,800 deaths due to COVID-19 were recorded globally from November 22 to 28 last year. The number of deaths from the novel coronavirus has dropped over the week in all regions of the world—by 46 percent in the Eastern Mediterranean and 27 percent in Africa and the Western Pacific regions. The Director noted that the number of deaths from COVID-19 is no more than 10 percent of its peak in January 2021. He stated, "We are currently in a better position than ever before, but the spread and mutation of the novel coronavirus continue, which may lead to the emergence of a more dangerous variant."

According to him, there is "a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel in the battle against COVID-19. However, humanity has a long way to go, and the tunnel remains dark with many obstacles." It is worth noting that the official number of people infected with COVID-19 worldwide has reached 613 million, with 6.5 million deaths reported.
