French national team star Kylian Mbappe, who transferred to Real Madrid, regarded that "things and people made me unhappy" at Paris Saint-Germain, referencing his exclusion from the team at the start of last season after he refused to activate the option to stay for an additional year with the French capital club.
Mbappe stated the night before the match between France and Luxembourg, "At PSG, I wasn't unhappy, because that would mean spitting in the soup and spitting in the face of all the people who defended me, but some things and some people made me unhappy."
The club had excluded Mbappe from the team's tour in Japan and South Korea in preparation for the new season in the summer of 2023 and threatened him with non-participation in any matches that season after he informed the club's officials of his decision not to activate the contract with PSG and stay until June 2025.
Mbappe revealed, "They told me, they made me aware of that, they spoke to me harshly." He continued, "The people who saved me are coach Luis Enrique and football advisor Luis Campos, and without them, I wouldn't have stepped on the pitch," considering that in these circumstances, he "achieved his best season."
He added, "I listen to the criticism; I believe I am one of those who analyze my performances in the best way, I have no problem revealing the truth, which is that it was below the standards I set. But what is certain is that I will not settle for that next season."
Mbappe continued, "I felt liberated and completely relaxed" after the official announcement of his transfer to Real Madrid and apologized for not answering questions related to his new club, focusing the questions on the French national team. He said in this regard, "There are many emotions, and we must move on to more rational matters because my transfer process overshadowed the national team."
He concluded: "I see disappointment in your faces because of this, but I will not respond to any questions that do not pertain to the French national team."
