Hospitals in Tripoli and the North are preparing to confront the cholera epidemic. Hospital administrations have instructed their medical staff to be ready to tackle the emerging epidemic. In this context, the visit of Health Minister in the caretaker government, Firas Abiad, aimed to mobilize the medical system in the North, expressing the willingness to cooperate in every possible way, alongside health awareness campaigns. He warned of a rapid spread of cholera if solutions to water sources—considered the main cause of the epidemic—are delayed, emphasizing the importance of activating public hygiene standards, especially in the cleaning of vegetables, fruits, and all foods.
In this regard, calls have been made by northern MPs and leaders to form a specialized health emergency committee to address cholera in Akkar and the North, urging concerned ministries to enhance their roles in providing clean water, repairing infrastructure, and mitigating damage to rivers affected by sewage. Additionally, there have been calls to equip hospitals with necessary medications and resources to effectively confront the epidemic and limit its spread. It was noted that actions should be swift and sufficiently responsible, particularly in Akkar, Al-Deniah, and the popular neighborhoods of Tripoli, according to “Al-Diyar.”
