The former commander of security prisons in Israel, Yaakov Emmanuel, revealed on Tuesday the threat that Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Senwar, used to instill fear in the guards during his imprisonment. According to the Israeli newspaper "Maariv" quoting Emmanuel, Senwar would threaten the guards by saying, "Wait, I will be released one day, and I will interrogate you." Such statements reportedly caused fear and anxiety among the guards.
On another note, Yaakov Emmanuel spoke about the issue of overcrowding in Israeli prisons, stating, "If the situation were less crowded, we could put more of them in solitary confinement." He indicated that "we need to build more prisons to cope with the worsening situation," and suggested constructing a facility on the northern border. The former security prisons commander emphasized that the problem requires radical solutions to put an end to the threats and improve detention conditions. Senwar, prisoner number 7333335, was incarcerated in Israeli prisons from 1989 until his release in 2011.
