Moroccan star Ayoub Al-Kaabi led his team Olympiacos to achieve their first European title in history after winning the UEFA Europa Conference League against the Italian team Fiorentina. Al-Kaabi successfully scored the winning goal for Olympiacos in the 116th minute of the match, granting the Greek team their first-ever European championship.
Al-Kaabi's goal in the final raised his tally to 11 goals in the knockout stages of the Conference League, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo's historic record of 10 goals in the knockout stages of a European competition in a single season. Ronaldo had scored 10 goals in the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League during the 2016-17 season, which saw him win the title with his former team Real Madrid after defeating Juventus 4-1 in the final.
Al-Kaabi is now level with French star Karim Benzema, who also scored 10 goals in the knockout stages, playing for Real Madrid in the 2021-22 season. The same record was achieved by Colombian Radamel Falcao with Porto in 2011.
After Al-Kaabi scored the winning goal for Olympiacos against Fiorentina, he managed to outshine Ronaldo, Benzema, and Falcao in European competitions.
