Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that "the goal in Gaza must be a decisive victory, to the extent that when the fighting stops, Hamas cannot claim governance in the Palestinian territories or threaten Israel." In an interview with "Time" magazine, he stated, "We are facing not only Hamas, but a cohesive Iranian axis, and we must organize ourselves to defend on a broader scale." He added, "I would like to see a civilian administration managed by the people of Gaza, perhaps with support from regional partners," further expressing, "After Hamas is out of power, I want to enlist Arab countries to help establish an entity that does not threaten Israel." Netanyahu also offered his apology "for the attacks on October 7th, and I am very sorry that such a thing happened," asserting that "I will remain in my position as long as I believe I can help lead Israel to a future of security."
