6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Taiwan

Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, experienced a series of earthquakes on Monday evening. The Central Weather Bureau stated that the strongest tremor was recorded at a magnitude of 6.1, originating east of Hualien City. This area was the epicenter of a previous earthquake measuring 7.4 that occurred on the 3rd of this month, causing landslides that closed roads in the mountainous region, while buildings in the main city of Hualien suffered significant damage. According to Agence France-Presse, the initial strong earthquake that struck Taiwan on Monday measured 5.5 and occurred around 5:08 PM, as recorded by the Central Weather Bureau, and was felt in the capital, Taipei.
