Evolutionary biologist Nicholas Longrich has revealed strange ways in which humans may evolve in the coming centuries, including women giving birth at an older age. Longrich, an academic from Alaska at the University of Bath in England, stated that we have largely eliminated predators as a selective factor. Violence has also significantly decreased as a selective factor. Although violence still occurs, the number of people dying from war or murder is lower than at any other time in human history. Also, diseases are mostly eradicated, but not entirely: while the coronavirus is not the flu, it is also not the Black Death, according to Longrich.
Here are three ways humans might evolve:
**A More Attractive Generation**
The scientist explained that in hunter-gatherer times, there were two men, one very handsome but foolish who gets killed. Women are attracted to the other man simply because he is alive (even if he may be unattractive). In the future, where fewer people die, attractiveness will become more important, especially as people meet their partners digitally. He hypothesized that with women choosing partners that match their height and both genders opting for facial symmetry, humans will become taller and more beautiful. He noted that women often choose partners based on height, and he believes we will have lower levels of baldness.
**Fertility**
Longrich mentioned that individuals with many children will drive human evolution, as the genes of those who can reproduce longer will be favored. He added that some individuals might have more children if their fertility lasts longer. Additionally, later menopause in women will make them more likely to continue reproducing, thus delaying aging and leading to longer lives.
**Slender Build**
Longrich indicated that women might prefer men with slender physiques, like Jackie Chan, over athletic men for the sake of having more children regardless of appearance, thus spreading the father's body genes (featuring a slight belly).
