Britain has warned of the deterioration in the security situation in the Red Sea and confirmed in a statement today, Tuesday, that the Royal Navy destroyer "Diamond" will join a new international task force to protect ships in the region. The "Houthi" group stated today that it will continue its attacks in the Red Sea and may launch a maritime operation there approximately every 12 hours. Houthi spokesman and chief negotiator Mohammed Abdul Salam said: "As for maritime operations, they are ongoing; perhaps no 12 hours passes without an operation." He added, "If the blockade doesn't stop, the operations will continue and might even increase in frequency."
For its part, the Italian Ministry of Defense announced that its navy would send one of its frigates to help protect the shipping route in the Red Sea from Houthi attacks in Yemen. Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated: "Italy will do its part in cooperation with the international community to counter the destabilizing terrorist activities of the Houthis." Earlier today, the United States announced that it would launch a task force of ships to protect shipping operations in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, which are two major trade routes, from the increasing attacks carried out by the Houthis in Yemen.
