The hashtag "The Right of the Al Arish Student" trended in Egypt on the platform "X" following the story of Naira Al-Zaghbi, a veterinary medicine student at Al Arish University. The girl committed suicide by ingesting pesticide after enduring bullying and blackmail from some of her university peers who circulated private photos taken of her secretly in a "restroom." Her tragedy sparked outrage among social media activists.
The 18-year-old girl was subjected to bullying and sexual blackmail by a male and female colleague at the university. Naira was unable to stop the blackmail that her classmates wanted to impose on her, leading her to make the tragic decision to end her life due to the severe psychological pressure she faced.
A conflict arose between Naira and one of her classmates, "S," who, with the help of another classmate, "T," plotted to trap Naira and blackmail her. This classmate achieved her revenge by starting a bullying scheme, as described by Naira's friends. The classmate took a picture of Naira inside the university’s girls' restroom.
The last words Naira wrote on her Facebook cover page were: "And know that your breast is straitened by what they say, so glorify the praise of your Lord and be among those who prostrate."
Naira's friends, who chose to remain anonymous to avoid repercussions from the university, reported that Naira approached an official at Al Arish University to explain the bullying and blackmail she was experiencing from her peers, but her concerns were not taken seriously. Unable to cope with the tremendous psychological stress she was under, Naira decided to end her pain and their bullying by taking her own life, swallowing the pesticide.
The villagers of Mit Tarif mourned the loss of the Al Arish University student, referring to her as "the lost youth, the bride of paradise, Dr. Naira Salah Al-Zaghbi," and a deep sorrow fell over the village.
The profound sadness over Naira Al-Zaghbi's death affected her friends, who decided to demand justice for her against those who bullied and blackmailed her, ultimately driving her to take her own life. They launched the hashtag "The Right of the Al Arish Student," which sparked widespread debate among social media users. Businessman Engineer Naguib Sawiris commented on the story of Al Arish University student Naira Al-Zaghbi, sentimentally stating: "Your blood is on their hands."
