A Ukrainian report states that special Ukrainian forces executed several operations against Russian troops in Syria.
The "Kyiv Post" reported that fighters from the Ukrainian special forces, in collaboration with Syrian opposition forces, conducted military operations against Russian army units stationed in Syria. The report, which lacked confirmation from other sources, indicated that, at the initiative of the Ukrainian military intelligence (GUR), Ukrainian soldiers in Syria attacked Russian military targets.
The report mentioned the existence of evidence and video testimonies from March of this year showing Ukrainian army fighters alongside Syrian opposition fighters conducting military operations against Russian army positions in the Golan Heights, where the Russians recently established several observation points. Sites of the Russian army, foot patrols, military convoys, and other targets were attacked.
During the assault, explosives, homemade mortars, and improvised explosive devices were used against the Russian positions and against Russian army patrols, all occurring as part of a military operation dubbed "Chemik".
Ukrainian intelligence agencies clarified that this was a response to Russian intervention in Syria and the fact that Russia is training mercenaries in Syria to fight in Ukraine. The mercenaries are trained at a base near the city of Aleppo, and upon completing their training, they receive Russian passports before joining the fight in Ukraine.
