American tennis player Coco Gauff jokingly expressed her concern about the height difference between her and fellow American basketball star LeBron James ahead of an unprecedented and historic opening ceremony for the Olympic Games in Paris. U.S. athletes selected Gauff, the world number two standing at 1.75 meters, to carry the American flag alongside the towering basketball star James, who is 2.06 meters tall, during the opening ceremony on Friday.
The 20-year-old Gauff, who won the 2023 U.S. Open title, commented about carrying the American flag: "I'm a little worried about the height difference. I thought it was about two flags, but I saw some pictures (from past Olympic Games) of them carrying the flag together." Gauff loves basketball and often watches games from the stands. She previously admitted that she would be in awe when meeting James, a four-time NBA champion.
When asked if she planned to record a TikTok video with James, 39, whom she considers a "role model," she said, "No, I haven't met him yet, so I don't think I'll have the confidence to do that." She added, "I've watched many Miami Heat games on TV and inside the arena. I've seen him (James) several times. But I haven't met him, although I wish I could say I did."
