A Chinese court has sentenced the former vice president of the Chinese Football Association to 11 years in prison after he was convicted of bribery. The Jingzhou Court in Hubei province found Li Yuyi guilty and imposed a fine of approximately 127,000 euros, along with the confiscation of other assets acquired through corruption, which will be turned over to the state. Li admitted in March of last year to using his position within the association to collect more than 1.5 million euros in cash and gifts between 2014 and 2021. A large-scale campaign against corruption among officials has significantly affected the sports sector, particularly football, under the current Chinese President Xi Jinping.
