Sources from Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath reported that Sudanese army leader and Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, dismissed Acting Foreign Minister Ali Al-Sadiq today, Wednesday, and appointed the ministry's Undersecretary Hussein Awad to assume the responsibilities.
The sources also mentioned that Al-Burhan dismissed the governors of Kassala and Gedaref. Later, Sudanese television confirmed that Ali Al-Sadiq's assignment as Foreign Minister had been terminated and that Hussein Awad Ali was tasked with the ministerial duties.
In a breaking news report, the television stated that the acting Minister of Cabinet Affairs responsible for managing the duties of the Prime Minister, Osman Hussein, also decided to cancel the assignments of Kassala governor Mohamed Moussa Abdel Rahman and Gedaref governor Mohamed Abdel Rahman Mahjouba.
General Mohamed Ahmed Hassan was appointed as the governor of Gedaref and General Al-Sadiq Mohamed Al-Azraq as the governor of Kassala.
**Who is the New Minister?**
It is noted that Awad previously served as Sudan's ambassador in Uganda, Pakistan, Rwanda, and Zambia. He also held the position of Sudan's representative to the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) and served as a Minister Plenipotentiary at the Sudanese Embassy in Kuwait.
**One Year of War**
This decision by Al-Burhan comes as the war in Sudan reaches its one-year mark, resulting in thousands of deaths and pushing the population of 48 million to the brink of famine, while also destroying already fragile infrastructure and displacing over 8.5 million people, according to the United Nations.
