The repercussions of the assassination attempt on former U.S. President and current candidate Donald Trump last Saturday, carried out by a twenty-something American teen, are still ongoing. Trump announced to a group of supporters at the Republican National Convention that surviving a near-death experience has changed his views and perspective on life.
In a video clip of the special event broadcast on PBS News on Thursday, he stated that he was shot at while having the best campaign, referring to the measures his campaign is taking to get him back to the presidency. He continued discussing the shooting incident that occurred during a rally in Pennsylvania, which resulted in one death and two serious injuries, mentioning that the 20-year-old suspect was killed by law enforcement.
The potential presidential candidate spoke while the crowd chanted, "Kill! Kill! Kill!" in reference to the young man who attempted to assassinate the former president. Trump emphasized that the incident was not a complete failure, but it was horrifying to happen, noting that what occurred was entirely unexpected.
Trump's speech came at a time when the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and Congress are investigating the Secret Service and other security personnel involved in the incident that shocked the world. Additionally, the House Oversight Committee announced on Wednesday evening that it would hold a hearing for the head of the Secret Service on July 22, following the failure to secure Donald Trump's campaign event where the assassination attempt occurred.
Republican Senator John Barrasso stated that the assailant who tried to assassinate former President Trump had been identified by law enforcement authorities as a "suspect" more than an hour before the shooting.
