After 67 years of military education, Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman inaugurates a transformation at the Command and General Staff College, which will now become the National Defense University, in line with the Ministry of Defense's development goals. The university, launched by Prince Khalid bin Salman, will have a prominent military vision, aiming to become the leading regional institution by 2030 in preparing and qualifying military and civilian leaders in national security and defense, through innovative and effective educational and training programs that enhance the country’s interests.

With 67 years of excellence in military education, the transformation of the Command and General Staff College into the #National_Defense_University is underway. Learn about the university's vision, goals, components, and academic programs.

The National Defense University aims to achieve academic and professional excellence both internally and externally, in addition to graduating professional cadres in national security and conducting scientific research in defense and national security fields. The university will also produce decision-makers at both tactical and strategic levels, and organize educational and awareness-raising events related to national security.

The university consists of the University's Executive Services Agency, the University's Academic Affairs Agency, the War College, the Leadership Development Center, the Joint Command and General Staff College, as well as the Center for Strategic Studies.

The "National Defense" offers academic programs such as a Master's in Strategic Studies, a Master's in Military Sciences, and a National Security Diploma, as well as Diplomas in International Humanitarian Law, Public Policy, scenario building and future foresight, national crisis management, a Joint Operations Planning Course, a Geopolitical Analysis Diploma of the international environment, a Media Studies Diploma, and a Strategic Leadership Diploma, along with a Master’s in Military Sciences.

The Chief of the General Staff, General Fayyad Al-Ruwaili, praised the launch of the National Defense University and the announcement of its new name instead of the Command and General Staff College, confirming that it represents one of the achievements and phases of development in the Ministry of Defense to support the capabilities of the national security system in the Kingdom through a professional military educational institution.

Thus, Saudi Arabia enhances its territorial sovereignty, as the focus on military industries and localizing them is increasing. The university’s outputs support the initiative to localize the national military industrial sector as one of the key strategic goals that strengthens the power and standing of the Kingdom, aiming to localize over 50% of Saudi spending on military equipment and services by 2030.
