Fire Outbreaks Intensify in Iraq: 5 Fires in 3 Hours

Iraq witnessed several fires in different locations within hours on Thursday, seemingly due to rising temperatures and weak precautionary measures. In the capital, Baghdad, a fire broke out in several shops in the Zafaraniya area after an electrical short circuit, with no reported injuries.

In Diyala Province, civil defense teams successfully extinguished a large fire that consumed one of the most famous used goods markets in the Bahruz area of Al-Muthanna Province. A significant fire ravaged parts of the Al-Rumaitha orchards, with firefighting teams working to control it until the evening.

A fire also ignited in a tire storage facility in the Al-Milad neighborhood of Karbala, with smoke columns rising near the Erbil silo in the middle of the city.

According to "Baghdad Today," which tracks global fire alerts, the total number of fire alerts has exceeded 18,700 in the first four months of this year, compared to about 15,000 during the same period last year. For severe fire alerts, from the beginning of this year until April 15, there have been over 2,400 fires, while the figure for the same period last year was around 2,650.

This indicates a 24% increase in the overall number of fires across various levels (large and small), although the number of large fires has decreased by 10% compared to last year.
