The Egyptian Ministry of Interior officially denied in a statement today, Wednesday, the "accuracy of claims circulated by some pro-Muslim Brotherhood pages on social media regarding the alleged death of an individual inside a police station in Gharbia, supposedly due to torture." The ministry clarified that "the reality of the incident is that the individual in question was detained by a decision from the Public Prosecution in relation to a case. On the 4th of this month, while he was in custody, a fight broke out between him and four other inmates, during which he was assaulted. He was subsequently transferred to the hospital for treatment but unfortunately passed away."
Legal measures were taken against those involved in the incident, and they were presented to the Public Prosecution at that time, which decided to detain them pending investigations after having released them on other cases they were held for. The statement emphasized that this comes within the framework of organized campaigns by the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood to spread falsehoods and distort facts in an attempt to create confusion after losing their credibility among public opinion.
