The media office of the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute announced that Russian scientists recorded a new record temperature at the Vostok Station, located in the middle of the Antarctic continent. The office indicated that the temperature recorded by scientists was -34.2 degrees Celsius. This is considered the highest temperature recorded in winter during the monitoring history. The office's statement said: "Scientists from the Arctic and Antarctic Research Institute recorded the highest winter temperature in the history of temperature monitoring in the coldest region on Earth, which rose at the Russian Vostok Station in the middle of the Antarctic continent on August 6, 2024, to -34.2 degrees Celsius." The office noted that the temperature the following day dropped to -48.8 degrees Celsius.
