Guterres Accepts Recommendations of Independent Review of UNRWA

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres confirmed his acceptance of the recommendations from the report by the Chair of the Independent Review Group for UNRWA, Catherine Colonna, stating that an action plan will be developed for their implementation. The report, titled "Independent Review of Mechanisms and Procedures to Ensure UNRWA's Adherence to the Humanitarian Neutrality Principle," highlighted important findings.

Guterres expressed his gratitude to the research institutions that participated in the Independent Review Group, including the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, the Michelson Human Rights Center, and the Danish Institute for Human Rights. He indicated his agreement with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini that the agency will, with the support of the Secretary-General, create an action plan to execute the recommendations presented in the final report.

In this regard, the Secretary-General relies on the cooperation of the donor community, host countries, and agency staff to fully implement the recommendations. He urged all stakeholders to provide effective support to UNRWA, as it is a lifeline for Palestinian refugees in the region.
