Hamas announced on Wednesday the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the movement's political bureau abroad. Iranian media reported confirmation from the Iranian Revolutionary Guard regarding Haniyeh's assassination in Tehran. The Revolutionary Guard stated, "We are studying the dimensions of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran... and we will announce the investigation results later." Media sources confirmed on Wednesday that Haniyeh was assassinated by a missile targeting him at his residence in Tehran, and it was also reported that his companion, Wassim Abu Shabaan, was killed. Haniyeh's last appearance in Tehran was during the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Bezhkian inside the Iranian parliament. Hamas political bureau member Mousa Abu Marzouk confirmed that Haniyeh's assassination is a cowardly act that will not go unpunished.
