German athlete Yimesi Ogunli won the gold medal in the women's shot put at the Paris Olympic Games today, Friday, with her final throw measuring 20 meters. New Zealander Madison-Lee Weishi secured the silver medal with a throw of 19.86 meters, while Chinese athlete Song Jia Yuan took home the bronze medal with a throw of 19.32 meters. This marks the first German victory in this event since Astrid Kombernos in 1996. Ogunli paraded around Stade de France carrying the German flag over her shoulders after ringing the victory bell. It seemed like it would be Weishi's day as she recorded her personal best on her fifth attempt, but Ogunli provided the perfect response to clinch the gold.
