The Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Deryan, received the Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Bukhari, congratulating him on the performance of the Hajj pilgrimage and the upcoming Eid al-Adha, as well as the beginning of the new Hijri year coinciding with next weekend. The media office of the Dar Al-Fatwa stated that "Islamic, national, and Arab affairs were discussed." Ambassador Bukhari emphasized "the importance of completing the presidential election requirement, noting that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is keen on Lebanon and its people to emerge from their crises." He confirmed that "the efforts of the five-member committee have not ceased in assisting the Lebanese to elect a president and work together to reach solutions that contribute to saving Lebanon from its current situation."
For his part, Mufti Deryan praised "the procedures and facilities provided by the Kingdom to serve the pilgrims of the House of God." He affirmed "the solid and excellent fraternal relations that bind the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its wise leadership with Lebanon and its people, especially with Dar Al-Fatwa and its institutions." He expressed his commitment to "strengthening national unity and civil peace in Lebanon." He highlighted "the role of the five-member committee in its presidential initiative, which complements and coincides with local, Arab, and international efforts, considering it an important and essential opportunity to save Lebanon from the successive crises it is facing."
Mufti Deryan called on political forces to "hasten in responding to the Arab and international initiatives and efforts that are keen on reviving Lebanon and its constitutional institutions, so that Lebanon can return to being a country of coexistence, rich in its sects and a platform for communication, meeting, and agreement among followers of the heavenly religions revealed by God Almighty for the welfare and happiness of humanity, freedom of peoples and nations, and their safety."
