The leader of the Shiite National Current, Muqtada al-Sadr, commented on the attempted assassination of U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump, describing it as a "struggle" that has disrupted democracy from its peaceful course.
Al-Sadr wrote in a post on the platform "X" that "it is essential for us to draw lessons from everything happening in this small world of ours, especially what has occurred in the United States of America, regarding the power struggle and the deviation of democracy and elections from their peaceful course, exemplified by the attempted assassination of the former president and current presidential candidate (Trump)."
He added, "Regardless of whether it is real or a scene from a previously made film, what happened indicates that America and its claims of being a great power or a 'guardian of freedom' or 'the primary supporter of democracy' or a promoter of 'peace' and denouncer of violence are false and misleading claims without any truth." He emphasized that it is "a clear message to our youth who lean towards the West under the impression that they are advocates of peace and proponents of democracy or freedom."
Al-Sadr continued, "Therefore, those who advocate the West and liberation should reflect and look with moderation and fairness, and recognize that all Western actions are nothing but lies that lack credibility or transparency as they claim." He asserted that "this assassination attempt is merely a series of compelling evidence of the West manipulating the minds of Arab and Islamic youth and third world countries, as they like to call them, just as in their recent debate which was merely a futile argument."
