Amer Al-Anzi, the brother of the drowned Saudi doctor Abdullah Al-Anzi, confirmed to Al-Arabiya.net that an update was received from the Saudi Ambassador to Switzerland, Dr. Adel Mardad, on Wednesday evening regarding the ongoing search for the body of Abdullah's son, Abdulaziz, after he fell into the Giessbach waterfalls on Lake Brienz, Switzerland.
Swiss authorities stated that the water police have not yet located the boy's body due to the strong floods, along with the difficulties in conducting the search, despite 10 days having passed since the incident. Amer Al-Anzi informed Al-Arabiya.net that at the time of the accident, a nearby Saudi family witnessed the panic experienced by his brother's wife and their daughter Kayan, who is only 6 years old. They contacted the Saudi embassy, as well as local police, in an attempt to rescue Dr. Abdullah and his son.
He added that two days later, the brother's body was found on the shores of the lake and was transported back to Saudi Arabia with the assistance of embassy representative Sami Al-Shatari. The body arrived the previous Saturday, and funeral prayers were held for him in Riyadh.
Amer mentioned that the last communication the deceased had with his family was through FaceTime, where he assured his mother of his return soon, but he returned to them lifeless, as he described.
It is noted that the drowned doctor Abdullah Al-Anzi was at the edge of the waterfall's rocks in the southern Swiss Alps with his son Abdulaziz, who is not yet two years old, when the child's foot slipped, causing him to fall into the intense floods. The father, unable to contain himself, jumped in a desperate attempt to save him, in front of his daughter and wife.
The incident garnered significant attention on social media under the hashtag #Dr_Abdullah_Al-Anzi. The Saudi embassy in Switzerland emphasized the need to exercise caution due to heavy rains affecting most Swiss cities and to adhere to safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities.
