Child Abduction Incident in Egypt

The incident of an attempted abduction of a child from his mother while she was shopping in a popular store in Tanta continues to occupy the minds of Egyptians, with calls for the harshest penalties to be imposed on the perpetrator if convicted. The mother claimed she was in the same store where the incident occurred to buy some items, accompanied by her two sons aged 3 and 5, according to the Cairo 24 website.

She stated that she mistakenly took the mentioned child instead of one of her sons, according to investigations by the security services of the Ministry of Interior, which revealed details of the incident.

A report was made to the Second Tanta Police Station in the Gharbia Security Directorate by a woman residing in the area, stating that while she was in a commercial store with her one-and-a-half-year-old son, she was surprised by another woman who was in the same store attempting to take her son and leave. However, the mother managed to stop her and retrieve her child.

This incident has sparked significant outrage among Egyptians, especially after videos showing what happened circulated on social media.

On Saturday, investigators from the Gharbia Security Directorate in Egypt arrested the woman. The accused was wearing a black robe and was taken to the police station, where a report was filed accusing her of attempted child abduction. The public prosecutor began investigations, including reviewing surveillance footage from the supermarket to identify the perpetrator.

Egyptians have called on social media platforms for the maximum penalties to be enforced against the accused if found guilty of the crime.
