Mawlawi Discusses Arab and Lebanese Situations with Abu al-Gheit

The Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, Judge Bassam Mawlawi, began his official visit to Cairo with a visit to the Arab League, where he met with the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Abu al-Gheit, in the presence of Assistant Secretary-General Ambassador Hossam Zaki. They reviewed the general Arab situation, particularly the Lebanese situation, in light of the developments and events taking place in Lebanon.

Jamal Rujdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, stated that the Lebanese Interior Minister provided a detailed explanation to the Secretary-General about the situation in Lebanon and the challenges the country is facing, which require support and assistance from Arab brothers. He emphasized that the Arab system remains a safety valve for maintaining Lebanon's stability.

For his part, the Secretary-General affirmed the Arab League's continued role in assisting and supporting Lebanon to overcome current challenges, stressing the necessity for the Lebanese to unify their words, elevate national interests, and distance Lebanon from any regional tensions that undermine its role in the Arab environment. He also emphasized the urgency of electing a new president for the republic, particularly as the current situation cannot bear a prolonged presidential vacancy, adding that the country needs to take practical and tangible steps in terms of economic reform and open the way for international assistance.

On another note, Minister Mawlawi visited the National Institute for Special Forces Training, where he met with the Assistant Minister of Interior for Training, Major General Hazem Abdel Rahman, and listened to an explanation about the training methods that rely on the latest training systems in the security field. Mawlawi had arrived at Cairo International Airport, where he was received by the Assistant Minister of Interior for Border Security, Major General Amin al-Jaali, and the Director of the General Administration of Cairo Airport, Major General Mohand al-Ardi.
