Egypt has instructed all its airlines to "avoid flying over Tehran" from 4:30 AM to 7:30 AM Thursday, according to local time in Iran. The Egyptian authorities issued a NOTAM notice regarding flight safety for pilots on Wednesday, stating, "No flight plan will be accepted that flies over such an area." The NOTAM system, known as "Notice to Air Missions," sends alerts to pilots to ensure flight safety.
The Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that it had sent a memo to all Egyptian airlines to avoid flying in Iranian airspace on August 7 from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM and on August 8 from 4:30 AM to 7:30 AM Tehran time due to military exercises. Several airlines have announced the suspension of their flights over Iran and Lebanon and canceled their flights to Israel amid rising concerns over a potential Iranian response following the killing of Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last week.
