Egyptian Soldier Killed by Israeli Fire Near Rafah

Investigations are ongoing into the border incident that occurred yesterday between Israeli and Egyptian forces, resulting in the death of an Egyptian soldier. A photo of the soldier has been uncovered. The soldier is identified as Abdullah Ramadan Ashri Haji, from the village of Al-Ajameen in the Fayoum Governorate, southwest Egypt. This comes after a security source reported that initial investigations revealed that "gunfire occurred between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants in several directions, prompting the Egyptian security personnel to take protective measures and respond to the source of the fire."

Another security source warned that the Israeli attack on the Philadelphi Corridor "creates field and psychological conditions that are difficult to control and are likely to escalate." The Egyptian military spokesperson announced earlier that day about the death of one of the security personnel following the gunfire incident in the border area of Rafah, noting that investigations are underway regarding the incident.

Israeli forces have been present in the border area between the Gaza Strip and Egypt since they commenced their military operation in Rafah over three weeks ago. Egypt has repeatedly warned of the ramifications and dangers associated with the invasion of Rafah, where around 1.4 million people, mostly displaced individuals, have congregated—despite Egyptian and international warnings—following Israel's orders for about a million of them to evacuate, and controlling the Palestinian side of the crossing, which is the main point for delivering humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.
