Alongside the campaign against traffic violations being conducted by security forces in various Lebanese areas, videos have emerged on social media depicting protest activities by young people on motorcycles in the Al-Mashrafiyeh region, where they blocked the road.
The Marjieh area in the southern suburbs of Beirut witnessed significant tension on Saturday evening following a confrontation between several motorcycle owners and local police officers. Security forces fired gunshots to disperse protesters who had gathered near the police station, due to the detention of their motorcycles in recent days.
As protesters continued to gather around the Marjieh police station, security forces and the Lebanese army reinforced their presence on the airport road while tires burned near the police station where a number of motorcycle riders were congregating.
The Marjieh road was reopened that evening after protests regarding the confiscation of motorcycles. Protests expanded to include roadblocks on Selim Salam road and the setting of garbage containers on fire, while no protests were recorded in the Ghebrieh, Al-Mashrafiyeh, Hadi Nasrallah highway, and the old airport road.
Calls for gatherings at the Beirut municipal stadium were also circulated on social media, protesting the Interior Ministry and Municipalities' decisions regarding the random seizure of motorcycles and in response to the gunfire aimed at a group of motorcycles in the Marjieh area.
In Shweifat, media reported that the main road was blocked in front of the Al-Ghandour factory, with motorcycle rallies traversing the areas.
Regarding rumors about the escape of several prisoners from the Marjieh police station, relevant sources denied this, confirming that the situation is under control.
