Russia Threatens to Bury Navalny in Prison Grounds

The spokesperson for the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny announced today that Russian authorities informed his mother that he would be buried in the detention camp where he died unless she agrees within three hours to a burial without a public funeral. His mother, Lyudmila (69 years old), has been demanding for days that the authorities return his body so that friends, family, and supporters can bid him farewell before burial. Kira Yarmysh, Navalny's spokesperson, wrote on the platform X, "An investigator called Alexei's mother an hour ago and gave her an ultimatum. She must agree within three hours to a secret funeral without a public farewell, or Alexei will be buried in the detention camp." Yarmysh stated that Navalny's mother refuses and continues to demand the return of his body. No comment has yet been issued by the authorities.
