A Hamas leader announced that the movement accepts a United Nations decision supporting a plan to end the war with Israel in Gaza and is prepared to negotiate the details. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken described this as "a hopeful gesture." The Axios website reported on X, citing sources, that Hamas has given Qatar and Egypt its official response to the Israeli proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages.
Blinken stated that "while Hamas's supportive statement of the UN Security Council resolution is significant, what emerges from the leadership of the movement within the Gaza Strip is paramount, and that is still unknown to us." In this regard, Egypt and Qatar announced that they received a response from Hamas and Palestinian factions regarding the truce proposal. The two countries said in a joint statement: "Egypt and Qatar announce today (Tuesday, June 11) that they have received a response from Hamas and Palestinian factions regarding the U.S. proposal concerning a ceasefire deal and the exchange of prisoners and detainees."
The statement from Cairo and Doha added: "Both sides confirm that their joint mediation efforts with the United States will continue until an agreement is reached, during which the mediators will study the response and coordinate with the relevant parties regarding upcoming steps." The White House also announced that it was aware of Hamas's response to Qatar and Egypt and is "working to evaluate it."
