The Kuwaiti newspaper "Al-Qabas" reported that the Criminal Court in the country sentenced former MP Hamad Al-Alyan to two years in prison with hard labor in a state security case. The prosecution charged Al-Alyan with "overstepping the authority of the Emir, criticizing his decisions, and misusing his phone by posting a tweet that violated the law." According to the newspaper, Al-Alyan appeared before the court and denied the charges of overstepping the authority of the Emir (Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah) and criticizing his decisions. The Criminal Court in Kuwait ordered Al-Alyan's arrest on June 6 and placed him in custody pending the state security case.
